Save the Date: 4Synth Networking Meeting 2026 | March 12–13 | Merseburg / Leuna

Innovation happens where science meets industry — and that’s exactly what the upcoming 4Synth networking meeting is all about!

We are excited to announce this year’s gathering of the 4Synth community, hosted by the Fraunhofer Center for Chemical-Biotechnological Processes (CBP) in Merseburg/Leuna.

A special thank you to our host, Dr. Ulrike Junghans — Head of Department for Regenerative Resources at Fraunhofer CBP and expert in scaling chemical and biotechnological processes — for welcoming us to this unique innovation environment.

About the 4Synth Network

4Synth is a collaborative innovation network of specialized companies, universities and research institutions in Central Germany focusing on synthesis chemistry, bioconversion and biorefinery technologies. Partners across the value chain — from route development to scaling and industrial implementation — work together to accelerate innovation and translate research into real-world applications. Guests, partners and interested experts are always welcome to join the dialogue or connect with us:

Fraunhofer CBP – Bridging Research and Industrial Application

The Fraunhofer Center for Chemical-Biotechnological Processes (CBP) in Leuna is a pilot-scale innovation hub dedicated to developing sustainable chemical and biotechnological processes for the use of renewable raw materials and CO₂ — closing the gap between laboratory research and industrial implementation.

At CBP, partners from science and industry can leverage advanced infrastructure and modular pilot plants to scale up processes — from raw material pretreatment and fermentation to chemical synthesis, downstream processing and product conditioning. The center provides process capacities of up to 10 m³ and supports projects from feasibility to production-relevant dimensions.

CBP’s expertise includes:

  • Development and scale-up of biotechnological processes (e.g., precision fermentations for bio-based chemicals and proteins)
  • Process engineering of chemical conversions to bio-based basic and fine chemicals
  • Advanced separation, purification and downstream processing technologies

By combining biotechnology with chemical methods, CBP accelerates sustainable process innovations and helps partners bring new solutions to market-relevant scales.

What to expect at the 4Synth meeting:

  • Expert insights into current developments in synthesis chemistry & bioconversion
  • Perspectives from industry and applied research
  • High-value networking with partners across the 4Synth ecosystem
  • New impulses for collaboration and innovation

Together, we shape the future of synthesis chemistry and sustainable process innovation.

We look forward to welcoming you to Merseburg / Leuna!
